Dave Tindall, Founder and Mortgage & Protection Adviser at DLi Mortgages, recently spoke at the Income Protection Task Force's (IPTF) Mid-Year Event.
The Income Protection Task Force works to improve awareness, accessibility and client outcomes across the industry. The Mid-Year Event brought together hundreds of advisers for a series of talks from respected and passionate professionals.
Speaking about his motivation for joining the IPTF's '7 Advisers' cohort, Dave said: "Before I became an adviser, I'd already taken steps to protect myself and my family if the worst were to happen.
"My biggest concern was being unable to work for a prolonged period because of illness or injury, and the financial impact that would have, especially as I had no sick pay and very limited state support to fall back on.
"The adviser I spoke to didn't even mention Income Protection, which I now know was the right policy for me (and thankfully I now have in place). Instead, they recommended something that was far less suitable.
"Once I joined the industry, I made it my mission to promote Income Protection, first to my clients, and then to the wider industry. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with the IPTF and help raise awareness of something that can make such a real difference."
Income Protection is an insurance policy that provides a regular monthly income if you're unable to work due to illness or injury, helping you maintain your lifestyle while you recover.
It can cover a percentage of your earnings until you return to work, retire, or the policy ends, offering financial security when you need it most.
